Florafolia's production facility is based in Rous, New South Wales, about twenty minutes inland from Ballina, in one of the best growing climates on the east coast. We specialise in indoor plants, tropical foliage and landscaping plants, and we have been supplying wholesale buyers across eastern Australia since 1988.

The nursery behind the name
Florafolia has been operating since 1988, building a track record across retail, commercial and government markets. Since transitioning to current ownership in 2019 under Lynne Sutherland, the business has developed into a structured, systems-driven operation. Lynne holds a Horticultural Science degree from Lincoln University and spent her earlier career in senior executive roles across several ASX top 10 companies. The systems and the growing knowledge developed together, not separately.
The operation runs on cloud-based production management, structured quality control, documented WHS and environmental procedures, and a five-step supply process designed to reduce risk for buyers from the first enquiry through to delivery.
Why the Northern Rivers is the right place to grow what you need
Location matters in this industry. The Northern Rivers gives Florafolia a genuine climate advantage for tropical foliage and advanced trees that nurseries in temperate zones cannot replicate. The species most in demand for commercial developments, civic spaces and urban greening projects, subtropical, coastal and heat-tolerant, are what we grow as a core competency, not a secondary line.
Our dispatch facilities accommodate the largest B-Double trucks, with multiple shipments going out to Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and the ACT every week, Monday through Friday. Proximity to the Pacific Motorway means overnight freight to Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast corridor. Interstate biosecurity certification covers supply into South Australia, WA and Tasmania.
The plants we grow
Our key lines as a wholesale nursery include Syzygium (including our PBR line, Backyard Bliss), Waterhousia floribunda, Brachychiton rupestris, Philodendrons (xanadu, imperial green and many more), Heliconias, Magnolias, Strelitzia, Olives, and Dracaena draco. Pot sizes run from 300mm to 100L and beyond. We are also the largest grower of Hoyas in Australia with over 500 species (and growing) in production.
Contract growing and pre-grow programs are available for projects that need specific species at specific grades to a specific timeline.

The people behind the plants
The production team are all Cert III qualified with an average of ten years of hands-on nursery experience each. That depth underpins everything: grade consistency, production reliability and the kind of knowledge that catches a problem before it becomes one. The team is small yet perfectly formed:
Lynne: Managing Director. Oversees the strategic plan, the production plan, maintains customer relationships, and is a self confessed Hoya nut who appreciates all the beautiful plants and the role they have to play in our ecosystem.
Josh: Nursery Manager, Develops and delivers the production plan and is a master juggler of time, space and customers emerging requirements. Passionate about trees and growing the best in Australia.
Fabiola: Talented at a bunch of things (thankfully) - marketing, processes, automation, AI, inventory management, book-keeping. And that’s just Monday.
